The problem

Nearly every wheel here started as one scrape

Four things bring a wheel in. Kerb damage. Corrosion under the lacquer. A crack. A buckle. Most wheels arrive with two of them, and the second is usually the consequence of the first.

The order rarely changes. The wheel catches a kerb, the coating breaks open along the rim edge, water finds the bare aluminium underneath, and across two winters the corrosion works inward over the face. By the time it looks bad enough to deal with, the original scrape is the smallest part of the job.

Which is the argument for not waiting. A fresh kerb scuff is a contained repair. The same wheel after a salted winter is a strip, a rebuild and a full refinish.

Detail

The wheel decides the repair, not the damage

Two wheels can come in with identical kerb damage and need entirely different work. What settles it is how the face was finished when it left the factory.

A factory diamond cut face is bare machined aluminium under clear lacquer. It cannot be filled and painted, because no paint matches machined metal. That face goes back on the lathe and is cut again. A powder coated face is a different job. It is stripped, rebuilt, coated and cured, and it can come back in any colour you want.

Read that wrong and the wheel looks acceptable for a season and obviously wrong by the spring. We work out which it is before quoting. It is the reason we ask for a photograph rather than a description.

How a repair runs

Five stages. You are only involved in the first and the last.

  1. 01

    Send a photograph

Tell us what the wheels need, or show us on WhatsApp if that is easier. The finish on the face changes the job, and seeing it settles that in a second where a description rarely does.

  2. 02

    You hear everything up front

Both come before we take the wheels rather than after. We will also match any like for like quote you already have, so there is no reason to shop the job around twice.

  3. 03

    We collect

Collection across central Scotland at a time that suits you. The car stays with you until the wheels come off.

  4. 04

    Tyres off, then assessed

Nothing is judged with rubber still on the rim, because the bead seat is exactly where corrosion hides. If a wheel turns out to need more than the photograph showed, this is the point where you hear about it, and you hear about it before any work starts.

  5. 05

    Refinished, balanced, returned

Back on the car balanced and ready to drive. Most sets turn around in a couple of days once they are with us.

Start to finish, in house

Trust us to get
the job done right.

Every stage happens in Block 7 on Larkhall Industrial Estate. The CNC lathe, the blasting cabinet, the coating booth and the oven are all ours and all under one roof. Nothing is sent out, so one workshop is accountable for how your wheels come back and there is one number to call if anything ever needs putting right.

Diamond Cut Rimz Ltd has traded since 2021, company number SC694781. If you would rather see the setup before committing to anything, come down during working hours and we will show you the machines your wheels would be going on.

Drivers who came to us

I definitely recommend this place. I am very happy with my new alloys. He got the job done in 2 days. What a transformation. Very good quality work done and good prices. It was definitely worth the travel.

Common questions

How much does alloy wheel repair cost?
It depends on the wheel, the finish and how far the damage has travelled, which is why we price from a photograph instead of publishing a figure that would be wrong for half the wheels that arrive. Send a picture and you get a price and a timescale together. We will match any like for like quote you already have.
Is alloy repair the same thing as alloy wheel repair?
Yes. Alloy repair is the shorter version most people type and it means the same work on the same wheels. The only time the distinction matters is when somebody means the alloy panels on a car body rather than the wheels. That is a different trade and not one we are in.
Can you repair one wheel on its own?
Yes, and plenty of people do. Worth knowing that a freshly refinished wheel is brighter than three that have weathered, so on an otherwise sound set it will stand out for a while before it settles. We will tell you honestly how it is likely to look before you commit to it.
Will the repair be visible afterwards?
Not when it is done properly. Repairs show when the damage is packed with filler and spot sprayed over, because that patch weathers at a different rate from the rest of the wheel and announces itself within a year. We rebuild the damage back to the original profile and refinish the whole face, so there is no patch to find.
Do you repair diamond cut wheels as well as painted ones?
Both, and they are separate processes. A diamond cut face is recut on the CNC lathe and sealed under fresh lacquer. A painted or powder coated face is stripped, repaired, coated and cured in the oven. We identify which yours is from the photograph before quoting.
What happens if a wheel turns out to be beyond repair?
You are told, and you are told before any money is spent on it. A rim that has been cut too many times or cracked in the wrong place should not be put back on a car, and we would rather lose the job than return a wheel we would not fit to our own vehicle.
