What we do
Powder coating alloy wheels
Stripped to bare alloy, coated, and cured in the oven so the colour sits even and holds through winter.
Our own workshop
The lathe, the booth and the oven are all in one unit in Larkhall. Nothing is sent out to anyone else.
Collected and returned
We come to you across central Scotland and bring the wheels back balanced and ready to fit.
Guaranteed, or redone
If you are not happy with the finish, we redo it. One workshop did the work, so there is nobody else to blame.

The problem
Why powder coating outlasts a respray
A powder coat is not paint. Dry powder is applied to the bare wheel and then cured in an oven, where it flows out and cross links into a single continuous shell bonded to the metal.
That shell is thicker and considerably tougher than a sprayed finish. It resists the two things that kill wheels in this part of the world, which are road salt through the winter and the constant chipping that comes off a wet motorway.
The difference shows up at the edges. Sprayed finishes fail first where the rim meets the tyre and around the bolt holes. A properly cured powder coat holds at those edges because it was never a thin film to begin with.

Detail
The strip is the part that matters
Most poor refurbishments fail because somebody coated over the last one. Coating over an old finish traps whatever was underneath it, including corrosion, and the new surface lifts within a season.
Every wheel that comes through here goes back to bare alloy first. Tyres off, old coating removed completely, and the metal inspected before anything is applied. If there is corrosion in the bead seat or the spokes we deal with it then, while we can still see it.
Only once the wheel is clean, dry and sound does it get coated. The colour goes on, the wheel goes in the oven, and it cures at temperature for a set time. That cure is not something that can be rushed.

Colour
Standard finishes such as satin black, gloss black, anthracite, silver and gunmetal are the ones most cars come in for. We also match to a paint code if you want the wheels to sit with the body colour, and we build two stage finishes where a colour goes down under a clear top coat.
Bring the car or send a photograph and we will show you samples against it before anything is stripped. Colour looks different on a wheel than it does on a card.

Drivers who came to us
Delighted with the guys @ Diamond Cut Rimz in Larkhall. Called in late Tuesday afternoon for a quote for Powder Coat for 4 wheels. Said they could take car in the next day, & it would be ready the following day. Great price, they explained the different coatings, I was shown examples, very professional. Thanks for the great job guys. Highly recommend
Common questions
- Is powder coating better than diamond cutting?
- They are different finishes for different wheels, not better and worse. Powder coating is the more durable of the two and can be done in any colour. Diamond cutting gives you the bright machined face that came from the factory. If your wheels were never diamond cut, powder coating is usually the right answer.
- Can you powder coat over the existing finish?
- No, and nobody should. Coating over an old finish traps corrosion underneath and the new surface lifts. Every wheel here goes back to bare alloy first.
- Will powder coating damage the tyres?
- No, because the tyres come off before anything happens. The oven cure would destroy a tyre, which is one reason to be wary of anyone offering to refinish wheels with the rubber still fitted.
- Can you do brake calipers and other parts at the same time?
- Yes. Calipers, hub parts and similar components go through the same strip, coat and cure process. Mention it when you get in touch and we will look at the lot together.
